Vegas by the River Fundraiser a smashing success!
The Roddick Youth Tennis Foundation's 3rd annual Vegas by the River fundraising event was held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Marble Falls Lakeside Pavilion. Attendees braved the cold freezing rain to raise over $10,000 for the Roddick Tennis Center - Highland Lakes, located in Granite Shoals.
This year's event featured Vegas style gaming and john Arthur martinez entertained and provided dance music. The event featured great door prizes, silent auction items, food from the RBar and Grill, desserts from Pie it Forward, Starbucks Coffee, Fuze tea from the Subways of the Highland Lakes, and cocktails, including the martini shaking team from the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. Prizes from the raffle from tickets won during the gaming included a 32 inch 1080p LCD TV from C & D Home Products Studio of Marble Falls, a Texas flag flown over the Texas Capitol donated by Judge Donna Klaeger, a $100 gift certificate from Aladdin Home Store of Marble Falls, and a Black and Decker drill donated by the Home Depot.
On behalf of the foundation, Dr. Lawrence Roddick made a special announcement that the foundation has designated $50,000 of its own funds toward the third phase of the tennis center, which will be 8 outdoor courts. The foundation's focus has always been to provide programs, training and equipment to the youth it serves, and this is the first commitment it has made to construct tennis courts from its own funding. These funds will allow us the tennis center to leverage that amount to obtain additional grants and contributions to build the next phase of the center.
The foundation has completed the first phase of the center, which is two covered QuickStart kids courts, and phase two, which is two covered regulation size courts, is in the design phase and construction is planned to start in early 2014. With the completion of the center's third phase, the foundation will start hosting youth tennis tournaments in Granite Shoals, which will bring thousands of visitors and millions of dollars annually in tourist trade to the Highland Lakes.
The foundation, started in 2007, locally provides after school programs at the tennis center in Granite Shoals, and has programs at Colt and Spicewood Elementary, and has put tennis rackets in the hands of hundreds of Highland Lakes area youth. It also operates major programs at schools in San Antonio.
